The number of panamax bulkers sold for demolition this year is nearing the psychological 100-ship barrier.
US shipbroker Compass Maritime estimated panamax scrapping has now reached around 98 ships so far this year.
The figure compares with 63 during the whole of 2011 and just 10 in 2010.
