STX Offshore & Shipbuilding has scored a drillship newbuilding order.
The Korean large shipbuilder announced today that it has signed a contract with a European shipowner last weekend (on October 19th) to build one state-of-the-art ultra-deepwater drillship.
The contract price is around $700m and the deal includes options to order four more same-type drillships, STX revealed.
The drillship is 230 meters in length and 38 meters in width. She can drill up to 40,000 feet (12,192 meters) deep at waters of up to 12,000 feet (3,657 meters) deep.
STX's Jinhae shipyard in Korea will deliver the vessel by the second half (October 19th) of 2015.
