With the decrease of domestic power and coal consumption, coastal dry bulk shipping weakens further.
As a result, enquiries for 5,000dwt bulkers see further decline due to the high operational cost of small vessels. Bulkers of 10,000dwt – 20,000dwt are still the hot ship type in secondhand market, but transaction prices are still low. Buyers’ interests in 20,000dwt -30,000dwt bulker are on slight rise, however transactions are still rare. It is expected prices for such ships will drop greatly in the future and stimulate final transactions.
It is reported that a 2004-blt 5,000dwt bulker were traded at a price of CNY5.80m. Another three-year 13,000dwt bulker was sold at about CNY21.00m.
Oil shipping market remains the stable momentum in the period. Enquiries and available resources for 1,000dwt dirty oil vessels are both rich, thus the ship value still keep the level at about CNY4.40m -4.80m. Some buyers are looking for 2,000dwt-3,000dwt tankers with double hull. At the same time, some owners are beginning to convert these ships into double hull on the requirement from buyer or the port. In the period, more 4,000dwt-5,000dwt and 8,000dwt tankers were launched and further drove the ship price down. On the contrary, assessments for 3,000dwt tanker see mild rise, but most buyers ask for double hull ones.
Demand for secondhand containerships and MPVs has decreased slightly. However, cheap and small vessels are still popular.
In the period, some buyers are looking for 5,000 HP AHTS and hopper barges for port operation. Besides, self-priming & self-discharging vessels and san dredgers are in strong demand due to government’s plan to develop South China Sea.
