Small-size private-owned shipyards in Jiansu, China seek ways to overcome order drought from inland-ship orders.
Yizheng, Jiangsu announced that five small-size private-owned shipyards in the region have contracted overall 20 inland vessels of a combined 253,600 dwt, totalling CNY 375m ($59.6m), over the last couple of months.
This accounts 48.3% of Yizheng-based shipyards' total inland-ship order in a year, in dwt terms, and 45.5% in value terms.
Smaller shipbuilders in Yizheng now extended their forward schedules up to the first half of 2013, with more stable cash flow.
Sources said that plummeted marine thick-plate prices in China up to CNY 3,280 as well as decreased marine equipment prices by around 10% are of great help to them.
However, since many shipyards and shipowners are still struggling with insufficient funds, those based in Yizheng concentrate on raising capitals through cooperation with stable banks and shipping companies.
