Newbuild Prices Keep Falling

August saw overall decreases in newbuilding prices, as well.
China Water Transport reported that newbuilding prices of VLCC, suezmax, aframax and product carrier, as of August of 2012, stood at $95m, $58m, $49m and $34m each, declined by 0.47%, 0.67%, 0.79% and 1.09% month-on-month.
Also, capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize bulkers' average newbuilding prices in August fell by 0%, 1.83%, 1.74% and 1.94% m-o-m each to $46.5m, $26.8m, $24.9m and $21.7m.
82,000-cbm LPG carrier and 160,000-cbm LNG carrier were traded in $70.5m and $201m, declined by 0.53% and 0% from previous month, respectively.
As for containership, newbuilding prices of 4,800-teu and 1,700-teu dropped by 3.2% and 3.07% m-o-m to $45.4m and $25.2m.
Meanwhile, in August, a total of 133 vessels (option included) - 33 bulkers, two FPSOs, nine LNG-FSRUs, six VLGCs, six offshore-related vessels, 13 chemical carriers and 16 drilling rigs - were contracted in the world, similar to those placed for orders in July.
China, Korea, Japan and Singapore contracted 54 newbuildings, 31, 19 and eight, respectively.
