Nam Cheong Inks Accomodation Barge Duo
Malaysia-based offshore vessels builder Nam Cheong clinched a deal to sell two accommodation work barges for $59m to Perdana Petroleum.
The accommodation work barges are scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2013, and they are built as part of the company's built-to-stock series in one of Nam Cheong's subcontracted yards in China.
The latest contracts brought Nam Cheong's year-to-date orderbook to MYR1.06bn ($340.8m) in value, surpassing last year's figure of MYR757m. Sales of the two accommodation work barges also represent Nam Cheong's second collective win in quick succession, amounting to five vessels sold in less than two weeks.
“Our winning season is reflective of the robust offshore marine industry in Malaysia spurred on primarily by Petronas' expanded capital expenditure in exploration and production. Petronas, the country's national oil company, has budgeted MYR300bn for 2011 to 2015,” said Leong Seng Keat, executive director of Nam Cheong.
