STX Offshore & Shipbuilding penned $550m contracts for newbuildings in a single day.
The South Korean shipbuilder said on Wednesday that it inked a $400m contract to build two 170,200㎥ membrane-type LNG carriers for Russia's SCF Sovcomflot on May 31st.
They are due for delivery at the end of 2013 and early 2014. Upon delivery they will be chartered out to Gazprom LNG.
The Russian state-run shipowner secured options to build two more same type vessels at the yard.
STX O&S developed an Arctic Ice Breaking Shuttle LNG Carrier together with STX Europe early last year and delivered its first LNG carrier of 173,600㎥ class to Spain's Elcano in August last year.
Meanwhile, the South Korean shipbuilder also contracted four 50,000-dwt products carriers worth $150m in total with Denmark's Norden Shipping on May 31st.
The newbuildings will be delivered from Jinhae shipyard from January 2013.
The owner also has options to order two more vessels.
An STX official said, "We will beef up our sales activity to win additional orders for commercial ships and offshore plants."
