July: Secondhand S&P Up
In July, global secondhand transaction activities pick up mildly, stabilizing the prices of secondhand tankers and containerships. Obviously resale of newbuilding vessels has seen great increase in the period.
According to China Water Transport, totally 117 secondhand ships were reported changing hands in July, 10.38% up month on month. The average age for the ships is 10.75 years old, declining by 42.25% against the age of last month. In the whole month, 60 bulkers, 31 tankers, 13 containerships, three Ro-Ros, 6 reefers, two gas carriers and two general cargo ships were traded.
Secondhand bulker transactions rose by 42.86% to 60 vessels, of which 19 were resold at about 85-90% of the original newbuilding price.
At the same time, the prices and transactions of secondhand tankers and boxships are all on the rise. It is recorded 31 tankers were changed hands in last month, rising by 34.78%. Of the total three tankers were resold new-built ships, whose price is 5% lower than newbuilding cost.
The asset value for boxships continue the upturn trend with container shipping entering traditional peak season. Totally 13 secondhand boxships are traded in the period, surging by 85.71%.
