Golar LNG Energy will convert another of its laid-up LNG carriers into a floating storage and regasification unit.
The John Fredriksen-led company said the time was right to convert the 125,000-cbm Gimi (built 1976) which has been idle since August 2009.
The vessel will undergo an extensive shipyard upgrading costing $10m before being made available for trading and infrastructure projects from August.
The Gimi will be the fifth Golar LNG Energy carrier-to-FSRU conversion job.
The previous four were carried out by the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore
