Canadian owner Seaspan seems to have delayed its options for 18 10,000 teu boxships secured at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding of China up to around six months.
Seaspan was supposed to declare options by June of 2012, however, amid troubled market, etc., the owner was allowed until December of the year.
Now, the owner is under re-negotiation for the price with Yangzijiang. The newbuilding price is expected to be around $85m apiece, declined by 15% from the previous contract.
Meanwhile, Yangzijiang inked an order for seven 10,000 teu containerships, with additional option for 18 vessels, in June 2011. The firm ones cost around $100m per ship and optional price used to be the same.
