China's Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is reportedly in renegotiation with Canada's Seaspan on the price of 10,000TEU containership shipbuilding options.
New York-listed Seaspan placed a firm order for seven 10,000TEU boxships with Yangzijiang in June last year, with an option for 18 more.
The order is being split between Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding and Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, both part of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings. The vessels are due to be delivered in 2014 and 2015.
Industry sources say the seven firm orders cost $98m-$100m apiece but the price attached to the options is expected to come down with a discount of around 5% from last year’s price seen as likely.
