Pakistan’s buyers have driven rates high in excess of $400 per ldt last week, further widening the price gap with their rivals in the Far East.
For owners of large, wet tonnage, Pakistan has the top prices on offer at the moment.
Some market watchers described the deals as “speculative” and questioned whether they were justified in the current wider market.
Meanwhile, Clarksons said, "Some firm rates are now being witnessed from both India and Bangladesh, creating healthy competition for those owners willing to consider the recycling market for their ageing units, as well as putting their seasonal holidays on hold.”
