Samsung C&T, a construction and trading company of Korea, has been selected as the preferred bidder for Jamaican government's LNG-FSRU business.
LNG-FSRU is an offshore floating facility for LNG storage and regasification, functioning as an LNG import terminal.
Jamaica's Energy Ministry announced that Samsung C&T has been chosen as a preferred bidder in a tender for an LNG-FSRU construction and operation, to be located offshore in the southern part of the country.
In the bidding participated Belgium's Exmar Marine and Spain's Sener Ingeniería Y Sistemas as well.
Jamaican government intends to deploy a 125,000-180,000m³ LNG-FSRU by 2014 in an effort to reduce dependence on oil for power generation and cut energy costs.
