STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, a South Korean shipbuilder, said Monday that it has won a US$150 million deal to build four Medium Range Products Carriers.
Under the deal with Thenamaris of Greece, STX O&S will deliver the vessels used to carry oil products starting from the second half of 2012, the company said.
STX O&S president Shin Sang-ho and Thenamaris president Ben Goodhead signed the newbuilding contract in Chang-won, South Korea on May 27th.
The 51,000-dwt MR Products Carriers measure 183 meters long, 32.2 meters wide and 19.1 meters high.
Thenamaris is yet to decide where to deploy the newbuildings set for delivery by the latter half of 2012 from STX O&S Jinhae Shipyard.
An official from STX O&S said, "Through differentiated ship technology we will aggressively tap the midsize products carrier market."
Meanwhile, STX O&S has inked new orders for 30 ships worth $1.35bn so far this year, attaining 27% of its annual order target of $5bn.
