Japan Inks 1.55m CGT: H1
According to Japan Ship Exporter’s Association (JSEA) on July 19, Japanese shipyards' overall export ship contracted in the first six months declined by 31% year-on-year to 67 vessels of a cumulative 3.48m gt (1.55m cgt).
In case of small-and-medium sized bulker, Japan inked 199 vessels in 2010, while export ship order has been in decrease with 91 vessels contracted in the first half of 2011, 73 vessels in H2 2011 and 53 in H1 of this year.
Of a total of 67 vessels contracted by overseas owners in the first half, in the 'Buyers' Market, dollar denominated contract has increased, while proportion of yen denominated has decreased to some 20%.
In June, overall six vessels of a cumulative 0.5m cgt have been contracted by overseas owners, down by 8% month-on-month, in gt terms. Two LNG carriers, one VLCC, one handysize bulker and two handymax bulkers have been contracted, which account one quarter of those delivered during the month. In terms of delivery, 66% of export ships are slated for fiscal year of 2013 while the rest are scheduled to be delivered in FY 2014.
A total of 41 vessels of a cumulative 2m gt have went through customs in June, up by 33% on previous month. In the first six months, overall 212 vessels of a combined 9.68m gt got clearance, slightly increased year-on-year.
As of the end of June, orderbook of export ship stood at 650 vessels of a combined 29.62m gt (13.08m cgt), dropped under 30m gt for the first time since May 2003, of which 272 vessels of a cumulative 12.21m gt are to be delivered in 2012, 246 vessels of a combined 11.22m gt in 2013, 118 vessels of a cumulative 5.53m gt in 2014 and 14 vessels of a combined 0.64m gt in 2015.
