Jinhai has recently announced that the company successfully inked a newbuilding order for three 2,000TEU “MARLIN 2000 Blue” boxships and further three optional units from UK-based Graig Group.
The new ship type “MARLIN 2000 Blue” is jointly developed by Graig, Wartsila and DNV and is said to reduce energy consumption by 30%. Insiders estimate that the current newbuilding price for the ship type is about $30.0m or lower.
The first two vessels of the order are scheduled for delivery by August and September in 2013, while the third one is to be delivered by the end of next year.
It is revealed that the Export-Import Bank of China together with a big bank in Europe offers financial support for the newbuilding contract.
Graig and Jinhai Heavy Industry firstly signed LOI for twenty-six 2,000TEU series in last June and then announced the execution of the contract for a “3+3” newbuilding order. However, the conclusion of the contract has only been finished till now due to the depressed container shipping market.
