Boxship scrapping is accelerating, with plenty more vessels likely to be sold for scrap during the remaining months of the year.
According to Braemar Seascope, 43 units of 86,000 teu were dispatched to the breakers in the second quarter of 2012, while 38 containerships were sold for demolition in Q1 of the year.
For the first half of the year, some 160,000 teu was removed from the world fleet, equivalent to 1% of trading capacity.
Braemar now expects up to 120 cellular ships of more than 200,000 teu capacity to be sold for demolition altogether this year.
