Global top shipping company Maersk Line, with long-term active investment in eco-friendly ships in the last decade, is expected to lead global competition for Green tonnages.
Analyst Park Mu-Hyun, E*Trade Securities said in a report on July 4 that Maersk Line has invested around 200 eco-friendly newbuildings over the last ten years, around half of them were placed at Korean shipbuilders.
Particularly, of all 66 Green boxships have been and will be delivered since 2010, Korean shipyards have been awarded for 62 newbuildings, except only four. This represents that the Danish shipowner is not interested in low pricing but Eco designs.
Moreover, recently Japan's Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) has joined global Eco-ship investment. MOL sold its four 15-year old VLCCs for scrap and is preparing to place orders for 10 eco-friendly 200,000-dwt capesize bulkers.
