On June 15, Jiangnan shipbuilding successfully signed a contract for the construction of four 1,100TEU boxships with Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping Co., Ltd. Four optional newbuildings are also included in the contract.
The new economic and green ships are designed by SDARI with full consideration of Jinjiang and Jiangnan’s requirements. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered continuously after February 2014.
Jinjiang reveals that the new containerships are for Sino-Japanese services and will be the biggest boxship on the route by then. The current biggest containership on the route is about 1,000TEU.
