China Denies 'Low Pricing'
China Newbuilding Price Index (CNPI) turns out to have maintained its downward trend.
As of June 15, CNPI stood at 890 points, down by 0.6% on the end of May, of which CNDPI dropped by 0.5% to 868. Leaving out newbuilding price for kamsarmax bulker decreased by 0.9%, prices of other BC sizes prices are almost unchanged.
CNTPI decreased by 0.9% to 931, while LR2 tanker price down by 2.1% and CNCPI declined by 1.0% when 4,800 teu boxship's price showed a 1.9% of negative growth.
Recently, Japanese and South Korean shipyards are also joined price competition, there are even a yard offering lower price than China.
In this situation, some Chinese shipyards began to refuse low-margin order, for instance, New Century Shipbuilding revealed that it would not contract for low margin orders but rather wait for market recovery.
