Greek tanker owner Pleiades Shipping has ordered two MR tankers at China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).

The Kifisia-based company has signed up for a pair of 50，000 dwt vessels， with deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of 2028.

Financial details have not been disclosed， although brokers currently place MR tanker newbuilding prices at between $48m and $52m.

The latest deal comes amid continued ordering in the MR sector. Shipbrokers estimate more than 50 MR tankers had been ordered globally by late May， equivalent to roughly 15% of the existing fleet in dwt terms.

Pleiades currently owns a fleet of nine tankers， ranging from MR vessels to aframaxes. The company is also building five LR1 tankers at China’s New Times Shipbuilding for delivery through 2028.

The two GSI vessels lift Pleiades’ current orderbook to seven tankers.
