Performance Shipping has locked in long-term employment for its two suezmax newbuildings well ahead of delivery.

The Nasdaq-listed Greek owner said it has signed charter deals with Repsol Trading for the two 158,000 dwt vessels currently under construction in China at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

The first ship has been fixed for seven years at $35,000 per day, while the second will earn $36,850 per day under a five-year contract. Both charters will start upon delivery, scheduled for October 2028 and May 2029.

Performance Shipping only entered the suezmax segment in October 2025 with the acquisition of two modern vessels, and has since moved quickly to expand its footprint with newbuild orders.

The fixtures come just weeks after the company ordered the pair in March at a reported cost of $81.5m each, marking a quick turnaround from contracting to securing employment.

Andreas Michalopoulos, chief executive of Performance Shipping, said: “Revenues secured from these charters will cover the majority of the vessels’ acquisition cost and add significant earnings visibility, increasing the company’s total fleetwide contracted revenue to approximately $471m from $317m, based on the minimum duration of each charter and as of the beginning of April 2026.”

The company’s average contract duration now stands at 2.8 years, with contracted days at 89.5%, 76.9%, 68.6%, 56.4% and 46.8% for 2026,2027,2028,2029 and 2030,respectively.
