Sungdong Scores New Order
Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of South Korea has secured the first newbuilding order since the turn of this year.
The shipyard has sealed a newbuilding order for 10 livestock carriers from PBHH of Malaysia.
The vessels will be built to a design by Groot of the Netherlands. Five will carry 7,000 cows and the other five will transport 11,000 animals.
They will also have capacity for 100 40-ft reefer containers for a backhaul cargo of frozen chickens.
Sungdong, now proceeding restructuring program with creditors group, had not booked fresh orders this year as it is reluctant to contract in low value.
As its creditor group prevents Sungdong from securing low-price newbuildings, the latest new order would be a "profitable project".
