Jiangsu Yards Struggle: Q1
Jiangsu shipbuilding indexes all decreased in the first quarter, but still tops in China.
During the first three months, Jiangsu-based shipyards delivered 87 vessels of a cumulative 3.46m dwt, down by 33.6% year-on-year in dwt terms. It accounted for 9.5% of those delivered in the world, 30.9% of China and export ship took about 89.8%.
Yards in Jiangsu contracted overall 41 newbuildings of a cumulative 1.27m dwt, down by 56.3%. It made up 11.4% and 22.8% in the world and China each and export ship accounted for 74.6%.
As of the end of March, Jiangsu secured overall newbuilding orderbook of 995 vessels of a cumulative 52.5m dwt, down by 27.2%, which took 15.8% and 36.8% of the global and Chinese market, respectively.
Meanwhile, Jiangsu-based top13 yards have a total of 598 newbuildings of a cumulative 47.58m dwt orders on the book, accounted for 90.6% of Jiangsu's overall backlog.
