Oslo-listed shipowner Rem Offshore has booked a subsea newbuilding at Norwegian yard Kleven Verft.
Age Remoy’s Rem will pay NOK 550m ($95.5m) for the offshore subsea construction vessel which will be rolled out in June next year.
Remoy says the contract is motivated by a belief rates in the subsea business are set to strengthen.
He explains the order is speculative but the company is confident a period contract can be secured prior to delivery.
Rem, which has three other subsea vessels in the water, has taken its running tally of newbuildings at Kleven to 14 with this deal.
