Petronas has already taken a final investment decision (FID) on a first 1.2-mtpa FLNG unit in late March, and South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering is very close to its 1st FLNG order intake.
The LNG-FPSO will be used to develop its Kanowit gas discoveries off Sarawak in East Malaysia.
Delivery is slated for late 2015 or early 2016, which could result in the floater being the first offshore LNG-production unit to be put into operation.
Initial talk suggested Petronas would make an announcement on the project when it signed formal contracts with DSME and Technip, which are contracted to build the $2bn unit.
But an announcement may be held over until early June when Petronas is playing host to the huge World Gas Conference in Kuala Lumpur.
