With sale for demolitions prospected record the highest this year, there are scrapping facility, safety and environmental issues, etc.
2012's disposal of old ship is expected to exceed 12m ldt of annual scrapping capacity.
In 2011, about 41m dwt were sold for scrap, which closes to the record year of 1985 with 44m dwt. However, this year would break the record with 50m-80m dwt to be scrapped.
At present, China and India each have shipbreaking capacity of 4.5m ldt, Bangladesh around 2.5m ldt. Also, shipbreaking yard in Dalian, China is to start operation with capacity of 1.5m ldt, at most, however, it still is beyond demand.
Moreover, applyiing 'Green Recycling' pressures shipbreaking yards and cash buyers.
