Poland Yard Wins LNG Ferry
Det Stavangerske Dampskibsselskab (DSD) of Norway has ordered two LNG-powered car/passenger ferries at Poland’s Remontowa yard.
The ships will have capacity for 550 passengers and 165 cars and are set for delivery in the second half of 2013.
DSD managing director Steinar Madsen confirms the order and says the vessels will be employed domestically on the service between Stavanger and Tau.
Sources suggest they are costing $25m each.
DSD is already engaged in another LNG project. In October last year, Nor Lines, which is 50% owned by DSD, placed a $88m order for two LNG-powered cargo vessels at Tsuji Heavy Industries in China for delivery in October 2013 and January 2014.
The 5,000-gt vessels are set to be employed in Norwegian coastal traffic, in the North Sea and the Baltic.
