To domestic shipowners’ delight, coastal dry bulk shipping market has seen great rebounding in the period. However, secondhand bulker transactions haven’t been drawn up by the trend till now.
Many buyers inked small bulkers (5,000dwt-15,000dwt) at the near-bottom price. The low value reduces the operation risks and enables the buyers to resale in poor market. It is reported a 2008-blt 8,500 bulker was traded at $2.37m and a five-year 5,000 bulker sold at $1.55m which is rather a good price in current market.

A Guandong-based financing leasing company intends to buy a 45,000dwt bulker for further chartering, which demonstrating the fact that many capital-strong buyers are willing to invest in the depressed shipping market and expect for great proceeds in later rebounding.
According to insider shipbrokers’ assessment, the value decline of five-year 5,000dwt bulker has been mild in the period with growing of transactions. But the assessments of three-year 16,500dwt and 22,500dwt bulkers have seen greater decrease for many buyers are unwilling to undertake high risks purchase.

Operators could transfer currents smaller single-hull tankers to double-hull for future operation. Regulations for environment protection have been more and more strict this years, it’s better for owner to take actions as early as possible.
The value for three-year 3,000dwt tankers keeps relatively stable in the period with few transactions finished. But the assessment of three-year 5,000dwt tankers seen mild decline with more newbuilds hitting water.

The cooperation of big liners and the warmup of box shipping market has made secondhand boxships more attractive since the beginning of 2012, however, the future is still full of uncertainties.
