Leonhardt & Blumberg firms up product tanker orders in China
Germany’s Leonhardt & Blumberg is pressing ahead with its MR product tanker newbuilding project which will be carried out at CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).
The Hamburg-based company has booked four 49,500 dwt units in total with delivery starting in 2027.
The order for two ships at GSI was first revealed in April, with two additional newbuilds now firmed up during CSSC’s visit to Hamburg for the SMM exhibition.
The first two vessels, which will be scrubber-fitted and methanol-ready, were estimated at $45m apiece.
Established in 1903, Leonhardt & Blumberg is best known as a containership tonnage provider with a fleet of around 30 ships. The company entered the product tanker segment in 2022 and currently has five vessels built between 2007 and 2008. Last November, Leonhardt & Blumberg also teamed up with Dutch owner Boomsma Shipping for a series of up to eight low-emission shortsea dry cargo vessels at Chowgule Shipbuilding in India.
