During the past half month, the secondhand market are relatively quiet due to the Chinese New Year Holiday, however there are still some enquiries about 5,000-dwt bulkers from Fujian province. It is said a 2008-built 5,000-dwt bulker was transacted at a price of $1.48m and another 2009-built same type is quoted at $1.54m.
Few transactions of 16,000-dwt bulker are recorded and the assessment for a five-year ship is about $4.76m. There are nearly no enquiries about 20,000-dwt bulkers and the value for a ZC-classed 20,500-dwt newbuild is about $8.73m. According to the assessment from insider shipbrokers, decline momentum of secondhand bulkers has slowed down.
The secondhand tanker market is stable in the period. Some buyers in the South are looking for 600-dwt refueling vessels for inner-harbor engineering ships refueling service, while the performance of 3,000-dwt tankers is still plain.
On the other hand, prices of CCS-classed 5,000-dwt product tankers newbuild witness mild decrease compared with 2011 for many buyers choose to wait for better chances.
Besides, some northern buyers are enquiring about 10,000-dwt product tankers but spot ship is required.
In the period, the secondhand engineering ship market is also quiet with newbuilding prices continue to decline and shipyards face even greater crisis.
Meanwhile, scrapping prices and demolition volume undergo mild drop with the steel prices lingering over low levels.
