Shipping company COSCO has taken delivery of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC),named Yuan Rui Yang,at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) in China.

This ship has been labeled as the world’s first such vessel by the China Classification Society (CCS).

The 333m-long ship will utilize LNG as its main fuel and be sailed by COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation Company.

With a breadth of 60m and depth of 30.5m, the vessel features a dual-fuel engine, power generators and boiler.

In gas mode, its endurance can reach up to 12,000 nautical miles, while total endurance in fuel and gas mode is 24,000 nautical miles.

The design of Yuan Rui Yang has an energy efficiency index (EEDI) of approximately 39.3% less than the baseline value.

The ship has also attained class notations that include Natural Gas Fuel,i-Ship(E) for ship intelligent energy efficiency, Green Ship I and NEC (III) for NOx emission control.

Yuan Rui Yang is equipped with two C-type storage tanks.

These 3,500m³ LNG low-temperature storage tanks hold autonomous intellectual property rights for this ship.

The ship is also loaded with two methanol fuel tanks, with a total capacity of 11,000m³.

These fuel tanks can fulfill the fuel needs of the entire ship’s main engine, auxiliary engine and boiler while at sea.

Recently, CCS granted approval in principle (AiP) for the green methanol-powered VLCC ship concept that was jointly created by DSIC and COSCO SHIPPING Energy.
