Offshore Plant Enters "Ultra-boom"
Shipbuilding industry seems to have just entered ultra-boom period, considering offshore-plant business.
Analyst Park Min, Korea Investment & Securities said February 21st, "Just seeing commercial ship sector, shipbuilders conditions are depressed by shrinking ship financing, low newbuilding price, troubled shipping market, etc.
However, if high oil price, deep-sea field development, increasing production of oil or drilling companies, etc., are considered, shipbuilders have the bright future."
Analyst Park added, "Contracts for drilling facilities and LNG carriers would resume from the coming second quarter in 2012 and boost in the second half.
South Korea's Big three would mostly win those orders and they are expected to easily exceed new order targets for this year."
He forecast that major yards would be benefited most from the growing offshore plant market, saying "If they secure some offshore plants currently on biddings and win drillships and LNG carriers to be ordered during H2, major builders are likely to jump over the target."
