Japanese and other shipowners now have nearly a dozen vessels on offer.
They include Japan-based Sanko Steamship’s 2011-built, 74,962 dwt Sanko Frontier and its 2008-built, 50,757 dwt Sanko Mineral, which shipbroker Clarksons reports were put up for sale this week.
Only weeks ago, the Japanese shipowner sold its 2005-built, 52,980 dwt supramax Sanko Galaxy for a reported $20.8m. At the time, the price marked an 11% decline over the last done comparable deal, fixed in December 2011.
Currently, VesselsValue estimates the value of Sanko Frontier and Sanko Mineral at $28.4m and $24.4m apiece.
However, Sanko Galaxy was valued approximately $1m above its final sale price by VesselsValue at the time, showing that a harsh market could undercut current estimates.
