Offshore plant age has arrived in shipbuilding market, with new order for offshore facilities, such as drillship, semi-submersible drilling rig, FPSO, etc., having exceeded that for commercial ship this year.
Demand for offshore facility increased according to deep-sea development boom by high oil price, and newbuilding contract for LNG carrier grew up as well.
South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries, including Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, won a total of $19.8bn of new order year-to-date in Shipbuilding and Offshore & Engineering divisions, among which offshore facility made up 58%. It contracted 11 newbuilding drillships, four offshore platforms, including one FPSO, etc., so far this year.
Samsung Heavy Industries also secured overall $15bn of new order, offshore facility taking 63%, added with additional new order for 10 drillships and LNG-FPSO.
In case of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering recorded $6.32bn of new order for offshore facility, including five drillships, three semi-submersible drilling rigs, one offshore platform, two subsea pipe layers, etc., which took 43% of overall $14.8bn order awards.
