The orders for drilling ships, semi-submersible drilling ships, FPSO and other offshore plant has greatly overwhelmed the traditional sectors in 2011. The time for offshore plants is landing.
With the rising oil price, the deepwater development projects have been activated. Besides, the demand for LNG carriers has witness great increase globally since Japanese earthquake. Since last October, global offshore orders see explosive growth, surpassing the last peak in 2005-2007.
Domestic shipyards have begun to catch up in the campaign. In September, Shanghai Shipyard secured 2+2 drillships, Wuxi Shipyard, Fujian Southeast Shipyard won four offshore supporting vessels respectively, and Nantong COSCO inked two pipe-laying vessels. In October, Rongsheng won a 1+1 shuttle tanker order, CIMC inked one subsea semi-submersible drilling platform with COSL Drilling Europe. Compared with last five years, domestic offshore sector has witness obvious progress.
Insiders say offshore sector is a relatively long-period industry and the order boom currently is either not short-lived. So experts predict offshore orders will keep an active level in next years.
