Reviews on Domestic Ship S&P (12.4-12.21)
Domestic secondhand bulker prices in the last half month have seen further declines due to the depressed freight rates and increasing overcapacity, especially bulk carriers below 20k dwt. A 14K dwt bulker was sold at the half of its newbuilding price in 2008. However, the enquiries for 40K bulkers are still strong as some shipowners are looking for larger bulker to replace current small ships. Some buyers say that the under-construction 40k dwt bulker would be better considering period and price.
In the period, the demand for 4k-5k dwt CCS-classed tankers is on the rise. Some buyers in north China enquired about this ship type but finally chose to wait for better price. Besides, the 600- dwt tankers are still hot in the market but the supply is still in short.
In the period, the newbuilding price kept the declining momentum. The demolition market is stable with few transactions.
