500 LNG-fueled Vessels to be Ordered in Five Years Globally
On Marinetec China 2012, Asia-Pacific and Middle-East COO of DNV, Eric Chen said at least 500 LNG-fueled vessels would be ordered in five year.
As the expected alternative eco-friendly ship fuel, potential demand for LNG’s application in ship-related field has begun to shown up.
Eric points out that more and more industry insiders and environment-protecting organizations show interests in employing LNG as a new alternative fuel. Governments, shipbuilders and shipowners are carrying out research and development on LNG application and the whole shipping industry are evaluating the potential benefits and risks of LNG-fueled ships.
According to Eric, CO2 emission reduction in shipping industry is far behind that in other fields like land transportation, etc. It is relatively new for shipping industry.
Eric discloses DNV has made great efforts on the design of LNG-fueled vessels, aiming to make new theoretical and technical innovations on current basis. The best and most innovative shipbuilding engineers are trying to find a much cleaner and safer energy for shipping industry.
