Zodiac 16,000TEU Upgrade
London-headquartered shipowner Zodiac Maritime has enlarged the size of up to 10 containerships on order to 16,000 teu.
The vessels, to be built by South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, were originally specified at 13,000 teu when the contract was placed in October last year, but have now been increased in capacity in response to requirements from a prospective charterer.
The line that is expected to take the ships on charter deal has not been disclosed at this stage.
STX released details of the revised order in a stock market statement, but did not reveal the name of the shipowner other than to say it was a European company.
Zodiac’s order consists of six ships with an option for another four, and delivery would be from the third quarter of 2014.
STX said the price would be $160m per ship, compared with the original cost of $140m for the 13,000 teu vessels.
