Overall shipbuilding industry as well as Chinese shipbuilders are facing with difficulties, however, green ship becomes a light to overcome decreasing new order and needs of restructuring.
According to China Association of National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI), Chinese yards are in construction of ships ordered two years ago, while their forward coverage has shrunken as new orders declined fourfold this year.
Besides, global economic troubles and fleet oversupply dampen Chinese shipbuilders, being already entered in financial restructuring period. Market forecasts China would be in a more difficult situation in two to three years.
New orders leaning toward major shipbuilders seems to continue, since small-and-medium yards, unable to secure funds or ship financing, would not make delivery on time.
Recently, high-value ships, such as containership, LNG carrier, etc., are in the spotlight, however, demand for tanker and bulker is in a depression.
Rongsheng Heavy Industries booked two 6,600-teu boxships from two shipowners from Europe in the end of June, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry(DSIC) and Shanghai Shipyard won four 4,800-teu each while Yangzijiang Shipyard and Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding penned four 4,800-teu, respectively, as well.
The important thing is that market are growing more interested in offshore facilities, as global demand for energy keeps increasing. Official from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry revealed that it already stepped out to open a new market and its new order for offshore facility has increased.
Meanwhile, as owners request for high-efficient eco-friendly ships, new order competition in this field looks fierce.
Thus, quite many yards in China already began to develop and design new green ship.
