Jiangsu Struggles over Order Drought
As Chinese shipbuilding industry has been clouded with new-order drought from early this year by troubled global shipping market, new order in the first nine months decreased by 42.8% to 29.02m dwt and orderbook down by 14.5% to 168.86m dwt, according to Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
China's the first shipbuilding province, Jiangsu, has been blown hard by current depression, new order and orderbook being sharply decreased, except a slight increase in delivery.
According to governmental records, Jiangsu made a decline in new order by 45.9% to 208 ships of 9.58m dwt during January-September period. Among them export ship took 86.2%, 17.9% of global market and 33% of its domestic market.
Also, overall shipbuilders in Jiangsu secured 1,222 vessels of 65.05m dwt in the book, by the end of September, down by 9.8% on the same period last year. Export ship held 85.5%, while it took 16.1% and 38.5% in global and Chinese market, respectively.
